Race/Ethnicity/Class? [Apr. 17th, 2015|01:31 am]

So on the 25th, MCLA's hosting the Live Out Loud Conference and it's the kind of thing organized by the Berkshire Area Health Education Centers (AHEC.)  In the, collecting demographic information for federal record keeping section of the online registration, I saw the usual race/ethnic categories.  Except white was white, white-advantaged, and white-disadvantaged.  First time I've seen white divided up like that on demographic questions for legal record keeping.

As they are aware, more people are concerned now with being heard than with being gracious. Miss Manners does not admire this choice.

Something titled "Live Out Loud" makes me cringe.

But I've never heard of statistics like that, either. Damned if I know how one would know which sort of white person one is, either.

Live Out Loud as opposed to staying in a closet because it was the, takes a deep breath, the LGBTQIA+ conference. (But frankly I want to just call the broadest level xyz and take individual letters away from everyone so no one can complain about not getting a letter and make it shorter.)

Self-perception is the best I could think of white/(dis)advantaged categories.
